Sport Sport is a major part of UAS life and all students get the chance to take part in the sports on offer. The main event in the MASUAS sporting calendar is the Vauxhall Trophy. This is competition against Liverpool UAS (LUAS), which shares RAF Woodvale with MASUAS. The Vauxhall Trophy is contested over seven sports, always football and rugby and then others including netball, badminton and hockey. MASUAS has a strong sporting tradition, particularly in rugby and has held the Vauxhall Trophy for 18 of the last 20 years. MASUAS is the current holder of the Vauxhall Trophy, having triumphed 6-1 in 2006. As well as the Vauxhall Trophy there are various inter-Squadron sporting tournaments including the annual Rugby 7s competition at RAF Cranwell and the Balti Cup, an annual football tournament. Friendly matches in several sports are also played throughout the year against other Squadrons or University organisations. | ![]()

In addition to flying, sports and social events, squadron members regularly participate in adventurous training activities. MASUAS has a distinguished tradition of off-shore sailing, with recent trips having been undertaken to the Channel Islands, France and even as far as the Caribbean! The opportunity to gain official qualifications - such as day skipper and competent crew - is also available. Apart from sailing there is the annual ski trip and Summer expedition covering activites such as white water rafting, mountain biking and climbing. Courses are available to squadron members to allow them to gain AT qualification at minimum expense, these are run by the armed services and include activities such as mountaineering, parachuting and diving.
